Biography
Hello. My name is Vina C. I am originally from Farmington, NM, but reside in the Phoenix metropolitan area. By day, I am a professional Archivist/Librarian helping tribal communities preserve, maintain, and revitalize our traditional knowledge, also, repatriating and protecting our Indigenous information. On weeknights and weekends, I am a sewing and embroidery guru.
Before professionally working as an Archivist and Librarian, I worked in the Theater profession for 16 years. I received my Bachelors in Theater and it is my first passion. I worked as a designer in costumes, lighting, and set, including working as a director, actor, playwriter, and stage manager.
I’ve been sewing since I was 14 years old. Sewing is one of my creative art form and therapeutic outlet outside my day job.
Vinaceous Designs Stitching Story
Vinaceous Designs is inspired by a late best friend and Costume Designer colleague, who hosted numerous stitch-n-bitch sewing sessions with a bottle of wine for a group of sewing friends. After her death, sewing helped me overcome my grief of her passing.
Vinaceous Designs is also inspired by my love of sewing, Diné cultural upbringing and my many relationships with many different Tribal Nations through my Archivist/Librarian profession. I wanted to create products for Indigenous people to culturally express themselves with Indigenous pride in this westernize world we are often forgotten.
Vinaceous Designs embodies many of my passions, influences, and as a creative designer of many trades through sewing and embroidery.
